# murmur logout

> Remove the stored Murmur identity credential for the repo's selected identity from the OS keychain.

Removes the stored Murmur identity credential from the OS keychain. It targets the repo's selected identity, or the one you name with `--identity`.

The `identity_name` selection in `murmur.local.yaml` stays, so the next [`murmur login`](/cli/login) signs the same identity back in. A record that cannot be read is still removed.

## Synopsis

```bash theme={null}
murmur logout [--identity NAME]
```

The command takes no positional arguments.

## Arguments

| Name | Type | Required | Description |

| `--identity` | string | no | Named keychain identity to sign out. Defaults to the repo's current selection, or `default`. |

## Output

One line on stderr:

```
  ✓ Signed out "alice" (removed murmur-identity / default@api.murmur.dev:9090).
```

When nothing is stored for the identity:

```
    No murmur identity stored (murmur-identity / default@api.murmur.dev:9090).
```

## Examples

### Sign out of the selected identity

```bash theme={null}
murmur logout
```

### Sign out of a named identity

```bash theme={null}
murmur logout --identity work
```

## Errors

| Code | Meaning | What to do |
| - | - | - |
| none | `logout accepts no positional arguments — did you mean --identity <arg>?` | Pass the identity name with `--identity`. |
| none | `logout needs an existing murmur config: ...` | Run the command inside a repo set up with [`murmur setup`](/cli/setup). |
| none | `logout needs a repo config (.murmur/murmur.yaml) — the identity selection lives in the repo's murmur.local.yaml` | Run the command inside the repo, not in API-key-only mode. |
